Abstract:
The basic design of wind tunnels suitable for jet engine drives has been investigated by matching the predicted mass flows and total pressure losses of typical tunnel configurations with the estimated mass flow and total pressure rise characteristics of possible pumping systems. There are three possibilities of jet engine pumping (i) induction pumping (ii) suction pumping and (iii) parallel suction and induction pumping, of which induction pumping is shown to be the most favourable.
